Values Based Briefing

Any competent policy professional can produce a briefing for decision-makers or your members. However, you may find that not all such briefings are in tune with your organisation's values. With over 35 years experience of working on poverty and inequalities (including racism, sexism, equal pay, ablism and health inequalities) you can be assured that any briefing you commission through myself will be drafted in line with your values and wishes.

Influencing

I am a very experienced influencer who has led, or worked in partnership, in several highly successful lobbying campaigns.  These campaigns delivered significant, positive, changes for disabled people and others living in poverty. For example, on welfare reform legislation; the Bedroom Tax; the Social Care (Self Directed Support) Act; the Social Security (Scotland) Act; the Child Poverty (Scotland) Act and the Scottish Child Payment. I am also known personally to many policy and decision makers who recognise me as an expert in my field.

Training

Regularly requested to make keynote addresses to national conferences and events I am a very experienced public speaker and trainer.  Feedback from participants complements my ability to make often complex issues and information accessible to varied audiences of professionals, activists and the wider public.

Ruth Boyle, Policy and Campaigns Manager, The Poverty Alliance

"I would not hesitate to recommend Bill Scott as he is an excellent policy professional, with robust analytical and engagement skills. Even more importantly, Bill is a wonderfully supportive colleague. I have worked with Bill across a number of roles and have always found him to be helpful, warm and quick to go above and beyond. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of issues related to disability and poverty. Most recently, Bill provided very helpful briefing for the Poverty Alliance on the implications of proposed changes to work capability assessments for devolved benefits. While this is an extremely complicated policy area, his findings were presented clearly and succinctly. Over the time I have known Bill, his work has been of a consistently high standard".
